Originally taken from the name given to a winning hand in a French card game, a NAP is now primarily associated with horse racing, where it identifies the best horse tip from the day’s action. It’s something that has confused inexperienced punters due to it having a less than self-explanatory title but it’s actually very simple, and it’s one of the most important factors when picking your bets.

NAP tips and predictions

As you’re picking out a horse tip which looks the most likely to happen, there’s a strong chance that the odds will be shorter than you might like, but the primary aim of a NAP isn’t to necessarily find any substantial profit. The main point of a NAP is to prove that you’re capable of picking one horse from the day’s action and getting it right more often than not. It leads to having a consistent NAP of the Day which goes in your favor, prompting any followers or fans into believing how capable you are at winning horse bets.

Unlike a lot of other typical horse racing bets, you won’t be able to find them on any bookmaker websites unless there are any boosted specials. This is mostly down to the fact that it’s not a betting market and it’s more of a category that horse racing betting websites will dictate, meaning that it’s based more on opinion than being something that’s easy to define.

What makes up a strong NAP tip?

It’s possible to find NAP tips online, even by referring to the daily bets on The Winners Enclosure’s Nap Of The Day page, but you’ll benefit even more if you work out how to find them yourself. There isn’t a set method of tracking down NAP tips that are perfect for placing your own money on, but you can certainly use some specialized criteria in order to work out what a worthwhile selection looks like.

The odds for NAPs are always quite low as they’re made up of the day’s most likely winner. This means that you’re unlikely to find anything that’s even far over 1/1 and if you do, it might not be as safe as you’d like for your chosen NAP. It’s not to say that you can’t back big-odds tips, but it defies the point of them and it will decrease your chances of successfully landing your bet.
