Electronic Poker Tables: Yay or Nay?
Poker - Stories
Monday, 12 January 2009 07:05

It’s come to my attention recently that a number of Southern California and Vegas poker rooms are having electronic poker tables installed in a effort to eliminate the cost of dealers and increase the number of hands played per hour. A fairly large discussion on the forum over at www.onlinepoker.com has tackled the question of whether or not the move to electronic tables are good or bad for poker, and I was actually surprised to see more than half of the members say that they’re all for the new digital tables.

Top 10 Resolutions for Poker Players
Poker - Stories
Wednesday, 07 January 2009 09:30

Jumping on the bandwagon of making New Years Resolutions for 2009 I thought I would make a top 10 list of New Years resolutions that all poker players should be making and sticking to …

1. Bankroll Management - Simply stop playing in cash games too big for your bankroll and SNG’s and MTT’s where they buy-in puts a big dent in your bankroll, this is the single biggest hole in most players game.

2. Play Happy - Only play when your really up for it, dont feel you need to chase loses or squeeze in a game, if you feel rough when there is “once in a lifetime” tournament running, skip it as your unlikely to play your best and would be wasting cash trying.

3. Dont Go on Tilt - Ignore the chattbox or turn it off it you cant, abusive or irritating chat that could tilt you is soemthing you must learn to tune out or turn it off.

Hand Analysis: Using Your Image in High Risk Situations
Poker - Stories

I recently had someone e-mail me a question about a hand they were involved in; this hand really shows the importance of being aware of what your image is and what the other players on your table are doing. If you stay aware of the way that they play in hands you are not involved in, it can give you a lot of information about a hand you do tango with. The e-mail begins as follows:

I’m playing 5/10 NL Hold’em and the small blind is a professional player who is a regular at the casino I am playing at. He knows a lot of the players in the high limits, so it gives me the impression that he has been playing for a living for some time. He is tighter than most pros. I’ve seen him fold AQ suited, AQ off suit, and A10 suited in early position to a raise 2-2.5 times the BB. Middle Position is very loose. I’ve seen her raise 10 7 suited in early position and make similar loose plays.

In this hand middle position opens for $30, and I raise to $80 with 7s 7h. It folds around to the tight guy in the small blind and he makes it $180 to go. Middle position calls, I call. Flop is 5s 5c 2s. Small blind bets, middle position calls, what should I do?

Terrible Session Today
Poker - Stories

Ugh, where to begin? Everything that could have possibly went wrong did; long story short, I had my first (and hopefully last) -$20k day today. I did take a shot at 25/50plo chasing two pretty big fish, but that's not where I got killed. I was at two of the absolute juciest 10/20 games I've EVER seen for a few hours, and wound up losing just about every big pot I played. This one table was particularly amazing with an average of 4-5 players seeing the flop nearly every hand for 2+ hours! But obv I ran like ass and dropped $16k at that table. So standard...
