To begin with, if I were engaged into a conversation ten years ago about how to win in roulette, I would simply have tried to avoid the subject. I used to have a “friend” at the local casino, who despised card counting at blackjack and he believed that the best game to earn some money is the roulette. A year later I found out that he was forced to sell his office, his firm and land property he owned. Yes, that’s a true story!

What caused me to research for a roulette system was the regular family visits to the local casino, since the casinos have a variety of offers on dining and drinking. Eight years ago, my daily visits to the blackjack tables of the same casino, was the beginning of an activity that still keeps me busy till today (gambling/investing) and many nice memories come into my mind when visiting nowadays, without the stress and pressure of the old times.
Friends who go with me, sometimes tend to get carried away and decide to try their luck, usually at the roulette. So, I thought to do a rough study to see first, if there is a chance for someone to actually win at the roulette and if yes, which would be the best possible way for winning.
A roulette croupier makes public of his findings
The cause for the fitting of the roulette betting system based on sections was a thread in a forum that I hardly remember. In that forum there were some very useful posts made by a croupier from abroad. According to his posts, the croupier had recorded more than 20,000 ball throws (!!!) with the help of some friends of his and his own efforts combined!
At the casino where he works, the croupiers are obliged to throw the ball even when no-one sits down at the roulette table, something that helped him in his recording. He also managed to record the different results caused by different ways of throwing the ball, e.g. if the ball is thrown by the right or left hand, or according to the roulette table they were assigned!
He therefore discovered that 56% of the balls that are thrown by the right hand, they land on the opposite half section of the roulette, while the 64% (!!!) of the balls thrown by the left hand landed at the same half section (or at the opposite, it is not actually important)!
Why those results are significant
According to the rules of mathematics, 100,000 throws are needed to arrive at a safe assumption. Still, this huge deviation in the results confirms the bias’ existence in throwing the ball according to the croupier, even in a relevantly small sample (10,000 ball throws per hand).
This goes on to prove that some dealers have the tendency to throw the ball at the opposite or at the same roulette’s half section more than the expected frequency.
That is mainly due to the mechanical throw of the ball, almost always with the same speed for each croupier. This is the reason we should seek for a croupier who doesn’t care much for his job, in order for him to throw the ball always with the same speed!
How about roulette wheel’s bias?
On the other hand, the roulette itself could also have a certain bias, but that is a rather rare phenomenon. Let us look at a very vivid example to make the term bias, which I am trying to explain here, more comprehensible.
Let’s assume that we place a roulette on a surface that has a 10% inclination. No matter who throws the ball, because of the surface’s inclination, the roulette will have the tendency to guide the ball towards the way the roulette is leaning to.
Given that the dealer is spinning the wheel always with the same speed and always from the number on which the ball had landed last (that’s a casino’s rule), the wheel itself will have a certain bias. However, roulette tables are scientifically positioned after a careful study of the casino’s personnel, because of all that.
Thus, it is rarer to discover a roulette with bias than a croupier.
The roulette betting system based on sections is all about Physics
Summing it all up:
- The croupier throws the ball always from the last number, helping us that way to record and study the results. If there are two same numbers in a row on the result board, it means that he threw the ball from that point and it landed on the same number (hint: possible same section bias)!
- The croupier spins the wheel conversely to each throwing of the ball, which makes the study of the results more difficult. Ideally there should be a recording of the ball throws sorted not only by which hand is used (right/left) but also in accordance to the wheel’s spinning direction.
- The system is based on the existence of bias in the croupier’s throwing of the ball, who ideally should throw the ball with the same speed.
- The system is based on the existence of the wheel’s bias, which should be caused only by the surface’s inclination where the roulette is located, or on other external factors (incorrect manufacturing, etc).
It is obvious that this particular roulette betting system is based on the laws of physics and not on statistics. In a statistically ideal world, each number of the roulette should be “picked” with the same frequency. Since the human hand is not perfect, Physics show how we could take advantage of the tendency that the roulette ball lands on certain numbers and sections more frequently.
